Dr. Patricia Chocano-Bedoya, MD PhD is a medical doctor and an epidemiologist. Since February 2020 she is the Head of Ageing Research at the Bern Institute of Primary Health Care (BIHAM), University of Bern, Switzerland. Previously, she was Head of Epidemiology and Data Management at the Centre of Ageing and Mobility at the University of Zurich and senior lecturer in epidemiology (Maître d’Enseignement et Recherche) at the University of Fribourg.
Dr. Chocano-Bedoya completed her PhD in Epidemiology at the University of Massachusetts Amherst with minors in nutrition and biostatistics and then received a Yerby Postdoctoral Fellowship at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health to train in nutrition epidemiology and neuroepidemiology. Her prior research included studies about micronutrients and data-driven dietary patterns and their associations to women’s health, as well as clinical trials targeting geriatric outcomes. Her current research is on modifiable factors related to healthy ageing, with a focus on diet and cognitive impairment. She has extensive experience teaching nutritional and clinical epidemiology.
